Milepost Map

Once upon a time I thought you could get xtra copies of the Milepost map, "I think" means I may not be remembering correctly. Buttttttt, who puts out a good overview planning map. The MP map has it all on one page....anyone else ?
  • My Milepost has a large foldout map in the center, as well as the more detailed maps in each section.
  • I agree, the map in the milepost is great because it shows the entire route on one sheet. I haven't found an exact replacement - without having to buy a MilePost - but found this small atlas on Amazon. Would this work?

    https://www.amazon.com/Alaska-Highway-Dempster-Dalton-Travel/dp/1553419049/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1470355164&sr=8-11&keywords=alaska+highway+map
  • Bell's guide also has a nice small map, with Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Alberta on it. Not real detailed but a good quick reference map. We hope to find them again so we can mark one up when we get home to show people our route. They already think we are crazy doing almost 5 months in a truck camper.( We are already in discussions about next year's destination! and we are only 1/2 way through this trip)
  • The State of Alaska's Official State Map is free and includes all the Alaska and Yukon highways as well as a good section of BC and NWT. You might be able to get them sent to you by contacting some one listed on their Web Site:

Unfortunately the link they show for getting maps is broken. The maps do have a lot of other very useful information that could be a great aid in trip planning.

BTW, this summer I did the Dempster, Dalton and Top of the World highways but I did them all in the Jeep Wrangler that I dragged behind my RV for my summer stay in Alaska.
  • If you have GPS, do not be surprised if it is wacky during your trip north. Near Grand Prairie, our GPS kept telling us to make a u-turn and then turn left thus putting us exactly the same course (of course we ignored it) and once even displayed "go that away." Other's we talked to had the same problem. Also review how you add Lat/long coordinates into your GPS because many campgrounds do not have traditional addresses. The Church campground book did list Lat/long and address if available.
  • Oh.... And Milepost besides being a great if your heading to Alaska from below the 49th, doesn't have all the towns and villages of BC listed on the map, "if" you take happen to take a route that isn't on the " main" north south routes that Mile Post a drawn in the wide bold colour on the map. So don't be surprised if a small town pops up on the road, where the map shows nothing. ??

  • Found that Amazon has the 2014 ver for $10 so just bought it for the map. I don't use the map to navigate with, so I wouldn't know of the missing towns. I find the Milepost burdensome in the amount of data that it holds, and with the thin paper and flat binding it comes apart very easily. I Haines the Churches book much more usable....I have the MP on my iPad if I want to look something up.
