Minnesota to California with new ride
We are flying to Scandia Minnesota wednesday to drive the new coach home. Was considering I-80 but was looking at the map and I-90 looks interesting also. Would enjoy seeing devils tower. Mountain win...

I went through Devils tower, but did not have reservations in June of 2006. I took one picture, and then drove out of the campground and ended up staying someplace west of there.
I love to boondock a lot, so end up parking in a church parking lot, or some other out of the way place along my travels.
On that trip, a especially memorable place to stay was the homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder - the Little House on the Prairie homestead in De Smet SD. It is only a few miles north of I 90. There is a tiny campground there, and you could take a tour of the old homestead, along with visits to recreated barns and lean to.
You will see a lot of signs for "WALL Drug" just 250 miles, or 150 miles, or 75 miles, and it is a interesting place to visit. The mountains about 8 miles south of town are even more interesting.
I also went to Yellowstone. Entering from Livingston to the North Entrance has very few curves in the road, and practically no drop offs or cliffs. You can leave via West Yellowstone, and then make your way to I15 then south to Orange County that way.
You might want to stop in Zion National Park too. IT is along the way, and much cooler than many of the other locations nearby. Once you reach Las Vegas, you will pretty much require A/C all night long. Yet it is possible to drive straight through from Zion NP to Orange CA in one day. Springdale UT has some full hookup campgrounds, while inside Zion NP there is electric only sites with a nearby dump station.
