MT 200 is a good highway, not very much traffic. When I lived in Missoula that is the highway I always took when heading to Great Falls. US 12 has a lot more traffic and going east the pass has a downhill grade that's not fun in the wintertime. Check with the locals, they'll recommend MT 200.
