N MI to Navarre FL

Mid February we will be heading from Northern Michigan to St. Rosa RV Park in Navarre FL. Google Maps suggest I65 to exit 93 at Evergreen AL. Then 31 to Brewton AL and then 41/87 to Navarre.

Any watch outs with this route or are there better choices for some reason ?

We don't drive long days when we are towing, so at least 2 nights on the road would be needed. This time of year we will most likely stay at least the first night in a hotel, but if the temps are high enough we might opt for setting up camp and de_winterizing for the second night on the road. Any campground recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.
  • I took that exact route to St. Rosa Rv Resort in August (from Ohio). Nashville was a mess of construction, but aside from that it was a fairly easy drive. Once you get off of 65 there are a few small towns with some low speed limits but it's not too bad. Make a stop in Clanton Alabama to Durbin Farm Market for some homemade ice cream and other fresh fruits and veggies.

thanks for the reply. The stop in Clanton for the farmers market sounds like a great idea. Not sure what we would find in February though.

There is a great county campground in Greenville,Ala..right off the interstate...called Shirling Park....think it is exit 130...site 1 is a great pull thru..Chuck
  • I've driven the part of the route from Evergreen down to the coast a lot of times. There are a few places going through Brewton that you need to pay attention to the road signs. Other than that it's a nice trip.
  • There is a very nice campground near Atmore AL, just off I-65. Check out Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve. It is owned and run by the Poarch Band of the Creek Indian Nation. lizzie

Took your advice. I was at a nearby state park I wasn't too thrilled with for a couple months so I left early and came to MBWR. $400/month with FHU on a wooded, lakefront site that is beyond huge. These Indians are very friendly and great hosts. I move around quite a bit but I think this is going to be a regular snowbirding stop for me in the future.

The only question I have is, why is this place not full?
  • There is a lot more activity there in the summer. Lots of tubing and canoeing in Big Escambia Creek and the horseback riders have events. Not many people know about it and it is in a very rural area. We use it as a basecamp for paddling the dozens of near-by rivers and streams. So glad that you like it. lizzie
  • I prefer to go on down I-65 to exit 77, which is AL-41 and go into Brewton that way.
