Nashville Road Construction

Any tips on how to avoid the Nashville road construction heading south on I65?

Construction season is about over in Tennessee. There is one short stretch on the north side that you may not be able to avoid. Try to avoid rush hours. 9 AM-3 PM, or 9 PM-5 AM are the best times.

But you can check on TDOT SMARTWAY MAPS before you leave for traffic flow and construction.

Coming from the north, you can take Briley Parkway (SR 155) and I-440 to avoid downtown, and pick up I-65 or I-24 south or eastbound, depending on where you are going.

Thanks for heads up. We will be leaving Clarksville the day after Christmas and heading south through Nashville. I was guessing there wouldn't be as much traffic that day (Friday) around 8:00am. Would you still go around on Briley Parkway to pick up I-65?

Check the TDOT site for incidents & current construction.... you never know. You are right that on the 26th there will not likely be much traffic. Either route will likely be OK barring wrecks or lane closures. Going straight through will save you a few miles. So I would check the TDOT site and go on through downtown if there are no obvious issues.
  • I live in Murfreesboro TN and to avoid Nashville I have used this route going both south and north. Get off at Cave City KY and take 90 to Glasgow. Then 31E and 231 to Lebanon TN. From there you can pick up 840 and go around to the south of "Crashville". Very good two lane roads and scenic drive from Cave City to Lebanon. Also 840 nice drive and little traffic.
