New York City?

Maybe I'm crazy. A Texan that wants to drive down 5th Avenue. I would like to make a lap around the city early on Sunday morning. Hoping there would be less traffic and fewer pedestrians. Is this a valid assumption? I can't decide if I want to do this with the Bigfoot cabover or pull the 5th wheel, drop it in a campground, and drive into the city with the truck.
Are there tunnel issues with the cabover? Will traffic be terrible on a Sunday morning? Is it worth the effort??

  • Regardless of what you do in the city, getting into the city with your rig will be the biggest issue. From RV Trip Wizard

    LP-GAS PROHIBITED:

    New York/East River:

    Between Manhattan and Brooklyn:

Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Between Manhattan and Queens:

    Queens Midtown Tunnel.

New York and New Jersey/Hudson River:

Between Manhattan and Jersey City: Holland Tunnel.

Between Manhattan and Fort Lee: Lower level George Washington Bridge (I-95 South) and George Washington Bridge Expressway. Lower level Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

Between Manhattan and Weehawken: Lincoln Tunnel.

Doesn't leave a lot of ways to get into Manhattan.
  • Sunday morning will be lighter on traffic and pedestrians that a weekday morning. Late at night is a good time to visit as well. Nothing like Times Square or the Empire State Building all lit up at night. Even though I avoid the place it certainly is a sight to see at night.

I don't know about the cabover but I would certainly go there with the smallest vehicle configuration you can. Coming out of the tunnels is sometimes a tight squeeze with the way the traffic flow is setup, especially if there is a moderate amount of other vehicles.

Good luck and "May the force be with you!" I avoid "The City" at all costs.
