Before you drive Hwy 550 between Ouray and Silverton I would STRONGLY recommend you do a Search on here for Hwy 550, Million Dollar Hwy, Red Mountain Pass.
I do not recommend it for rv's (and am far from alone on that!) and particularly for not experienced mountain drivers. If you choose to go that way we can give you good alternates. Won't go into details unless you are planning to go that way.
Being a newbie I would also caution and putting in lots of miles and driving into late at night; it is a different driving and you most likely will tire more easily.
