NJ - Fredericksburg, VA - Richmond Hill, GA - Nashville, TN

Afternoon All,

I am taking the trip above towing my 26 RLS. Good Sam trip planner has me taking the Harbor Tunnel, or McHenry Tunnel to get through Baltimore but it also gives me propane warnings. Can I get through the tunnel with my two propane tanks? Any route suggestions folks?

My next step has me going through Atlanta to get to Nashville. Is there an alternate route or do I just pay the price for loving the road and go through Atlanta?

Thanks in advance,
Hector

  • We did southern NJ (Clarksboro) to Fredricksburg KOA in a day going over the Delaware Mem. Bridge, 13 to 40 to US301. Took us just under 6 hours with a lunch stop. The first 20 miles on 301 was thump-thump concrete but the rest was fine.

Fredericksburg is a must do for us. We are visiting family who live in the area.

I have done 81 to Knoxville on my motorcycle. That is a nice traveling road!

    Thanks.

Then try 95 to Richmond and hop on 85 south.. Take it towards Charlotte and get 40 west ...

  • The tunnels around Baltimore have propane restrictions. You need to take the I-695 beltway either East or West. East is shorter, but has a toll on the Key Bridge. West has no toll, no bridge.

Another route that will avoid the I-95 tolls in DE and MD and all of the Baltimore/Washington area is to take DE-896 to US-301 South to US-17 to Fredricksburg.

    Hi Petrel,

Is I-895 the Beltway? It looks like I-895 and I-95 have propane restrictions so I am not sure what you are recommending.

Thanks for getting back to me. As you might guess, I have never driven down this way in any vehicle.

You need 695 , and cross over the Key Bridge...

  • I can't speak to the whole journey, but i would strongly recommend that you schedule your trip around the beltway and down 95S to fredericksburg to miss rush hours. Hopefully someone who lives up there will chime in, but DC to Fred is a 50 min drive that can easily become 2 1/2 hours!
