Old Milepost travel Planner

Plan to buy a new one as my departure date approaches but we're probably two years out and just wanted an older one to thumb though, help with my preliminary planning and see what it's all about.

Got it! :) Good plan. Understanding the lay of the land is very helpful. For someone like me who's lived in two small states (NH & MA) it's hard to imagine just how immense the state is.

We bought an older one on Amazon a couple years before our trip to Alaska. Yes, things do change, but the landmarks, etc., will be the same. I used it to help plan our itinerary. Then I ordered the newest one the year we took our trip. I got the book plus the computer version which all helped immensely.

I just bought the 2019 version in preparation for our trip next summer, 2020. Didn't want to wait till next year when the next edition is released. I think it's in March when that happens. Hopefully, the '2019 edition will still be current.

We have been doing the PA. to AK. RV trip, about every five years, since 2000. When it comes to remote areas, like much of the Alaskan Highway, it can be difficult to imagine how fast change comes to the area, and how many businesses have failed and are fading into the bush, since our first trip. Nothing wrong with a five year old Milepost, as long you keep in mind that any privately owned road house, campground, bakery, restaurant, tourist trap,fuel stop, motel, etc... may be doing just fine this year, may of closed last season, or maybe it's somebody who paid for an advertisement in the 2014 Milepost, or is listed in that edition, but failed before that edition even printed the first copy.

I have never read official figures, but if anybody had the facts, and stated that a third, or even half, of all businesses in the wilderness of northern BC and the YT have been shuttered in the last two decades, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Hey all, scratch this request. I just found a 2014 version on Ebay for $6.21 and had some random $5.00 coupon and purchased the Milepost for $1.21 with free shipping.
