I have done that route a couple times. Last year at this time we had to head east and I picked two routes to take and decided that the weather would determine which one we would go on.
If I were going, I would take I5 to 84, to 93 as my first option and I5 as my second. The grade near Pendleton is wicked but there are a couple on 5 that are just as bad, but beyond that, I don't recall anything difficult about 93 at all. We stopped in Twin Falls, Ely, and someplace below Las Vegas.
