A real job is doing a service that I am willing to pay for. I don't consider a real job being one that is forced on the people by government. I look down on people that can't live outside of a nanny state.

Yes you can pump your own Diesel. From my understanding, you can also pump your own gasoline into motorcycles & antique vehicles. There are 'GREENIES', that you may encounter at the pumps,saying. "YOU CAN'T PUMP YOUR FUEL".
Oregon is a beautiful state that shouldn't be missed.
Planning on being back there in Oct.

That reminds me of the station south of Burns, at the turn off to the Wildlife Refuge (yes, the occupied one). I waited a few minutes, and then got out to pump my own. That brought the attendant out quickly. But this was 10 years ago.

My next gas stop in the area was in Plush, after passing through the even more remote Harts Mtn Antelope Range. In comparison, the gas stop in Paisley was almost urban.

The law changed in Oregon a couple years ago, some stations in rural areas can allow self pump of gas.

As for why Oregon has attendants: 1) we don't have to get out and pump our own when it's raining or when the temps are over 100, 2) we don't get smelly fuel on our hands, and 3) parents don't have to leave a child or children in the car to go in to pay for the fuel, and 4)we provide employment for people that WANT to work but can't be employed otherwise (and don't want to be on government dole).
