Oregon and Washington Diesel Fuel

In Southern Oregon right now diesel is under 2 bucks a gallon most everywhere and as has been said even cheaper at Uncle Freddies if you have the time to wait.

Finding diesel is no problem; in cities, towns, all along the interstate, small communities, and even in back woods locations. Not so much luck in the National Forests, but then you can't really find gasoline there either.

You actually can pump your own diesel. When we were there two years ago I had NO idea about pumping gas or fuel in Oregon and an attendant came running out to stop me! Freaked me about a bit until he explained what was going on, never heard of such a law but what the hey. After a couple of minutes of conversation he told me it's "ok" to pump diesel just not gasoline. After that first encounter I let the guy come out to me. I would explain I'd like to pump my own fuel as I don't like diesel "dribbles" on the truck (not a fan of the smell of diesel). :B Most of the time the guys were cool with it.

I had NO trouble getting diesel while in that area, like many others have stated there are tons of trucks using diesel so it's very easy to get.

You're going to love your visit there, very beautiful state, we loved it!!

Yes, I can get my 40' DP into most Freds in the Vancouver, WA area - right now I have 40 cents off from buying groceries to use before the end of the month.

For those of you that do shop at Freds or any KROGER store, on their receipts you will see the info to take their surveys. Your allowed to take one a week and each one is worth 50 points. Four surveys per month equals 200 points or 20 cents off per gallon and then add that to the points you get for anything you buy in the store and it's easy to get 30 - 40 cents off per gallon. The points work at any Kroger store.

Glad that I asked such an entertaining question, but after reading many campground reviews for national forest sites where the reviewer said to be sure to bring your supplies and fill up with gas before entering I thought that it was a legitimate question. I know that there are plenty of places along the interstate highways, it is the small towns in the very large national forests that I was concerned about.

No problem with Diesel. Just maybe watch for Bio Diesel, it has a little less power. Diesel in Fred Meyers, a local everything store, Diesel $1.89/gallon.

I asked someone from Oregon why an attendant had to pump the fuel and he told me it was because the average user didn't always push the fuel nozzle in tight enough so the vacuum system in the nozzle sucked back the vapors coming out of the tank as the fuel went in. This was needed because the vapors were hazardous to people's health.

I told him I agreed, it was obvious that for Oregon to write a law like that, they had been inhaling way to many gas fumes. He didn't think I was funny......

New Jersey and Oregon don't trust people to not blow themselves up while pumping gas, and the states would rather leave the job to professionals.
Its not rocket science any third grader could do it

OP Most stations even in the wild west have diesel. :R Access with a rig may be a problem of course. :h The National Truck Stop Directory can be very useful even back east. If you are unable to use the truck lanes it also indicates RV lanes.

I think you'll be surprised....Oregon and Washington may be "way out west" but they DO have modern facilities. LOL
