Thank you all for the very helpful information. Exactly what we were looking for. And also validation for the Kotzebue leg of the trip. We are trying to plan a few other 'off the beaten path' legs. Trip planning is fun and it helps me get through the winter. Next spring can't come soon enough!

Kotzebue is a favorite place for me to visit. The NANA Native Corp has an interesting jade mining operation not too far out of town. The also own and operate a nice hotel in Kotzebue, located right on the beach of the Bering Sea. Getting to see this part of Alaska will always be with you. This area is part of the real Alaska, something most tourists never get to see and experience. Take a lot of photos, as the opportunities are everywhere you look. While I haven't been there in years, doubt it has changed much, as there has been a village in the area for several thousand years.

If a week or less, I use the Moose Lodge in Anchorage. You must be a member.

For long term I use Diamond just outside the airport. Last stay was 22days, they have shuttle both ways and were very helpful in leading us to the parking space and spotting for us. It was a locked-gated lot. Call ahead, give them your dates and they will give you a price.

Well being in Centennial City RV Park for a week last July, I would have no problem leaving it there for what you are talking about.

You could leave your rv on the peninsula and fly to anchorage. a lot of flights out of Kenai 3-4 out of Homer daily. Flights are cheaper from Kenai.

Golden Nugget RV Park in Anchorage is not far from the airport and is an enclosed compound. We stayed for a week or so a couple of years ago - located in an urban area means it is not the most natural environment you'll find but there are nearby community parks, friendly folks running the place and good service - no issues at all.

FWIW, for 2.5 years, I rotated Houston-Anchorage (now mostly Houston again :( )

About 1/2 of my Houston-rotations (2-3 weeks in duration), I put my truck in the Long Term lot at the airport (the other 1/2, I was able to leave it at the house). My suggestion would be to make sure that they airport parking lot can take your motorhome (i.e. enough room and access), but if they have space, leave it at the airport.

I've never had an RV in Alaska, but FWIW, I'd never leave it at any of the campgrounds around Anchorage...either public or private. If the airport can't do it, I'd ask one of the storage places rather than a CG. Opinion only, though.

Some RV parks in Alaska tend to attract locals who can't afford to rent or buy stick accommodation.

At the one we had to overnight in (due to a flat tire that needed fixing) near Wasilla it was scary. Drug deals in the open, tenants rallying against their rent increase, and it was dirty and not well-maintained. But we didn't have much choice as it was late. Hardly slept, kept fondling the axe under my pillow, and we left at 6 a.m. before anyone was awake.

I'd choose a parking lot over an RV park...

There are two secure park and fly businesses located just before the airport for way less money than an RV park. The RV parks in Anchorage are not the best, I'd say kinda shady to be honest. I'm not sure if the long term lot at the airport has spaces long enough for an RV.
