Parking for Copper Canyon Train

We may be able to do the Copper Canyon train this year as our dog isn't with us. We have been to Creel several times and explored much of Copper Canyon by ATV but have never taken the train. What is the normal stopping/parking spot to pick up the train to head toward El Fuerte? We would stay overnight in El Fuerte and return before heading toward Mata Ortiz.

Thanks in advance.
  • We took the train from El Fuerte, stayed two nights in Creel, and took a taxi to meet the train in Davisidero, for the return leg on the train. The taxi trip gave us some better looks into the canyon. We loved the train! It was March and blossoms on some of the trees were out, beautiful purples festooned the steep mountain sides. The rugged mountains were amazing and the railroad itself is a most remarkable feat of engineering, utilizing dozens of tunnels. Back in those days the sidings were busy with keeping, and transporting RV's; that lasted two or three years more, at most. We had always planned on returning to explore the valley floor, but have never been back.
  • There is a campground at the South end of town on the Left. This is where we left our RV. They will take you to the train station or you can walk. We loved the train but only went to the Pink Hotel / Posada Barrancas Mirador , http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g151927-d1163899-Reviews-Posada_Barrancas_Mirador-Copper_Canyon_Northern_Mexico.html a little over halfway. We took the First Class train and made our way to the Wine / Drink car. Had a great time.

  • I think the train was a disappointment, but I liked Creel & exploration trips from there.
  • I can't answer your question either but we made a few good purchases in Mata Ortiz some years ago. By the way, there was a GREAT Italian restaurant in Casas Grandes. Opposite the church and the park. Fresh home made pasta. Popular with the locals for lunch (pizzas) to go.

The train is still on our TO DO list but we still have the two dogs.
  • I thought they stopped RVs on the train years ago. Have they started again? Opps... read it wrong....never mind.
