Can't avoid further opinion :(......I'm a pilot as well and I long ago decided that there wasn't any flight that I HAD to take (whether in the big silver bird, in a spam can, i.e. Cessna/DHC, or in a rag-wing piper). I hope those poor folks didn't fly in crappy weather because they felt trapped when facing the loss of their flight fees.
Being a pilot, I read everything I could find on the crash and it appears that weather was the major contributor to the accident. HAL is one of the few cruise lines that will not force you to take an excursion in such conditions and will refund your money if you elect not to. We cruise on HAL and are very familiar with their policies.
