Polar Bear Trip

We did that Fantasy trip a couple of years ago. Had just a wonderful trip. The Fantasy staff could not have been better for all of us (13 rigs). That time of year some of the stops were pretty basic but worked for all. Once in Churchill the Tour was excellent (we were on the longer tour). Saw a total of 21 bears while we were on the tundra! Weather for us was very comfortable - but sure could have been blizzardy that time of year. The last day of the Tundra trip it started to snow as the Buggy headed back to town. When we came out of dinner and headed for the night train back to Thompson it was blowing a blizzard. In AM at Thompson - no snow but cooling. The folowing AM when we woke up in the Thompson cg - 8 inches of fresh stuff! Be prepared and enjoy the wonderful experience!

Am I understanding this right? Are you driving to Churchill in the Fall?? That is an adventure! What happens if there is a blizzard along the way? Are you in a convoy?

And if there is a way to drive to and from Churchill, how late in the year can one do this? I have heard that the aurora in Churchill is great, and this is going to be a particularly good year (because of the 11 year solar cycle).

Yes, we are part of a "convoy" aka Fantasy RV Tours. Check it out on the web. It's been on our Bucket List for a while.
We drive as far north as the roads go (Thompson, MB) then we hop on a train to Churchill. We have the campground owner in Thompson look after our rigs while we are gone for three days. Hopefully it doesn't snow too much! Yes, I know how to winterize the rig if I feel I have to. We'll be hooked up to electric and I have a couple of ceramic space heaters as backup to the furnace. We will try to button it up with insulating foam and duct tape around the vents, I think.

we were looking at a fly in tour 6 nights all inclusive with the big tundra buggy rides out for photo shoots of all kinds of wild life incl polar bears

Note that Adventure Caravans also offers a trip to Churchill to see the bears. We were booked a few years ago but due to circumstances we had to cancel. Still hope to do it in the next couple of years,

You might want to compare the trips both companies offer. Adventure Caravans take the train North and you fly back to Thompson rather than spend the time doing the train again.

On our Fantasy RV trip, we also take the train North and fly back to Thompson.

That is good - from Crabbin Cabins post it appears they took the train back to Thompson. From what I hear, there is not a lot to see except trees and it is a long trip - and is usually late.

I spent a year in Churchill with those bears - wouldn't want to do it again. They are very beautiful and destructive.
