Port Angeles to Victoria

We are planning a trip to Olympic National Park. We want to see Victoria and Butchart Garden as well. We have a 20 ft travel trailer. I am thinking of leaving the travel trailer in Port Angeles and taking the truck on the ferry to Victoria and getting a hotel there. Good Idea? We will probably spend one or two nights in Victoria. Or should I take the trailer with me? Should I leave the trailer in a RV park or a lot? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

  • Thank you! If we have time, we will consider spending more time on the Island. However, if we don't, I'm looking for a safe place to leave the trailer. Also looking for hotel advice in Victoria. I looked at the ferry prices and cost of transportation in Victoria. Looks like it may be a good idea to bring the truck.
  • Two good pieces of advice just above, and they are exactly the opposite advice.
If all you are seeing the the Victoria area, leave the truck behind
If you are going to see more, take both the truck and trailer. Example, near Artum there is an amazing RV Park (Ripple Rock)
  • Seriously, come on into Vancouver Island, spend three to five nights here. It is the only place on the coast that is sheltered from the western winds and I live only half way up it, 2.5 hours from Victoria. If you like scenery there is not much better in a coastal climate than here. PM me for more if you wish.
  • You might also look into just walking on the ferry, you really don't need a vehicle in Victoria, it is an easy city to walk around. The Coho (Port Angeles ferry) arrives at the inner harbor in the center of Victoria, and there are shuttles to The Butchart Gardens. You will love Victoria,
  • Just have a look at the ferry fee (both ways or to Victoria and then over to Vancouver) for your TT and it will be an easy decision!!
AND getting the TT back in to the USA can be easy - time consuming - or frightening - depending on the breakfast the inspector had that morning and his relationship with his wife / girlfriend.
Honestly - we have had 3 trips with our 'A' into Canada / Alaska and the entry into Canada has always been easy and the re-entry to the US easy twice and once a complete terror. (I think they must have thought this old couple were bringing something 'interesting' back home!!)
