Another route to consider is to head west to Prince Rupert and take a BC ferry day sailing through the inside passage to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island, then head south to Parksville/Qualicum Beach. A 2 hour drive west from Parksville gets you to the Tofino/Ucluelet area and Pacific Rim National Park which is one of my favourite places on earth. South of Parksville, you can take a ferry from Nanaimo to the Lower Mainland (Vancouver) area either to Horseshoe Bay, or to Tswassen. Or keep going south to Victoria where there are three ferry route options-Sidney to Tswassen, Sidney to Anacortes, Washington through the Gulf Islands, or Victoria Harbour to Port Angeles, also in Washington State.
The possibilities are endless from VI, so I won't elaborate. I am familiar with all of these routes, and all are absolutely worth a look. The downside is the cost of the ferries.
The trip thru the icefields is spectacular in places, and I highly recommend that as well. Whatever route you choose, BC will not disappoint. Have fun!
