prince george

i have googled and tried travel adviser ect and can not find anything encouraging about the area. i am handicapped and can't walk long distances. is there anything to see in the area. will be traveling through in june and would stop and enjoy it if i could find things to do not city related. thanks
  • Prince George is a great place to live with the awesome outdoors right at the door step. But as a destination in itself on holidays not so much. It has all the amenities but maybe stopping in at the tourist center for information on the local area may work for you. 1300 1st ave. 250-562-3700
  • There is a pretty cool railway museum that, by my recollection, is fairly accessible.

The city itself doesn't really have much to offer. There is a great bookstore right downtown.

I suggest paying a visit to Barkerville if you are into history. It is a restored exhibit of a gold rush era town south of Prince George. If you are driving from south, you will pass Quesnel. Barkerville is off the main hwy from there about 45 min. away. There's private campground at a small village call Wells, IIRC, nearby and provincial campground at Bowron Lake.
  • TKW..unless things have changed? That's a long hike from the parking area to the site itself and even getting around the site is not an easy navigation for someone that has mobility challenges, as the OP said.

    No, not true.
There is a campsite within walking distance of Barkerville and everything it wheel chair accessible.
