Two good routes we have used.
1. I15 to Idaho Falls then route 26 to Alpine Junction and then north to Jackson. No significant grades.
2. I15 to route 89 Near Brigham City. Continue on 89 all the way to Alpine Junction and on up to Jackson. Route 89 between Logan and Garden City on Bear Lake is the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway and is a beautiful drive. In the Byway section, the road climbs gradually and is somewhat curvy and then has about a 1 mile of 7% downgrade just before Garden City. The rest of 89 is easy and scenic as well.
You are wise to avoid the Teton pass. Been there, done that, never again!
Yes, have travelled both of these routes and both are good. We drove over Teton Pass - ONCE and will never do it again. We take the time, coming from Idaho Falls, to go through Alpine Junction and up along the Snake River.
