Puerto Penasco Rocky Point

Heading to Rocky point playa bonita rv park. It has been a couple of years. Is there anything new I need to know about, crossing Lukeville etc? I hear they are not letting dog food, and beef among other things crossing the border. Any new info would help.

  • We were in Rocky Point in February. We got stopped. First, let me say, it was random and it was not an unpleasant experience. US Homeland security stopped us asked us about guns. Mexican border police stopped us. A random Agriculture inspection was done, very similar to other border crossings (Canada). They asked about, dog food, dog rabies paperwork, meat, poultry alcohol produce. Confiscated one small steak and warned us about the other stuff. The guards were pleasant, we were at the border about 15 minutes. Other rv's drove by us. This was something new, an agriculture inspection. Not a big deal. We got stopped by the Mexican marines outside of Puerto Penasco, Briefly, stuck their head in the door , then waived us through.

We found that we really don't need to bring food items and stuff. We can get what we need in PP. They got a "WalMart" and Sam's Club just opened last year. Reasonable prices.

So not saying you will get stopped, just what could be on a random check.
This was our 2nd time being stopped in 10 years of travel to PP.
  • We had no problems at the border. Outside of RP there was an inspection point but they didn't stop us, they got our friends. All the guy did was come in and pet the gato so they gave him a couple of bottled waters.
  • Camper4ER,

Crossed at Lukeville in March with no problems. No inspection on the way down until we got close to Rocky Point. The Federales had a checkpoint that we had to go through and they boarded our Motorhome and looked around a bit, but then we were on our way. Not sure what they were looking for. A couple very young kids with big guns so I didn't ask many questions. Next time I will videotape their inspection in case the plant anything in my rig.

On the return trip we didn't have any problems either, but the only thing we brought back with us was some very tasty shrimp. Matter of fact we just finished the last of them last weekend.

May sure you get your rig washed and waxed while you are there. Cost was $1.50 per foot and I thought that was a great deal. We plan to return next spring for another visit, a shrimp party and a wax job.

    Enjoy!
