Question about Lake Havasu City AZ

I had someone tell me that they loved Lake Havasu and one place special was something called "The Hand" that looks like a hand.
It must be some kind of land formation that looks like a hand. They even said they had spread their husbands ashes there. Since we are in Quartzsite I told her we would check it out.
Does anyone know where or what this is?
Looking at Google Earth don't see anything right off the bat.

  • I have lived in Havasu for 13 years and spend lots of time in the desert. I think the "hand" is the one a few miles north of the airport like other have said. It only looks like a hand when you are southbound on 95 about 4-5 miles north of the airport and is very obvious.
  • The C of C wrote back saying... I've checked with a few folks and there are various names for this rock formation and it's also called the "Natural Claw"
But didn't tell me where it was.
  • JohnG3 is right. Just north of Havasu behind the airport there are some fantastic rock formations. We ride our side by sides through them. There is one you can see from the highway called "the mitt".

  • Going south on 95 from 40 there is a rock formation on the east side of the road that looks like a baseball mitt. Saw it in early Nov. when we went there. Didn't pay attention to the mileage from 40 and didn't stop to take a photo. Try going to Google Earth street view and looking for it.
  • Possibly referring to Finger Rock northeast of Lake Havasu about 10 miles east of Bullhead City on highway 93.

  • This may be a stretch, but down river from Lake Havasu is Topock Gorge. There are several rock formations that people have interpretations for them. One looking like an Indian. Some say you can see his "Praying Hands".

  • OK. This is a stretch, but 200 miles away down in the Superstition Mountains northeast of Apache Junction (east of Phoenix) is the Lost Dutchman State Park.

Inside that Park is a rock formation known as the "Praying Hands". One could almost see a relationship between spreading someones ashes and that rock formation.

Scroll down a bit in this Lost Dutchman Link to see a photo of those hands.
  • I've also been there a few times and haven't heard of the hand. The State Park is nice and near the water. Bill William NWR is one of my favorite birding spots and the weather is wonderful. There is a lot of boondocking/ATM locations just south of town and watch out for the burros
  • Been there hundreds of times and never heard of it. Been up and down the river. Beautiful area between Lake Havasu and Needles on the river. Lake Havasu is really crowded now. Wonder if they are talking about the island. All man made of coarse when McCullah moved his company there and built up that desert area back in the 60s
