Question about roads inside Yellowstone

no problem on the roads, there is really only one direct route - any road in the park is safe even for the largest RV - travel time would be about an hour.

Yes the main loop roads and entrance road connections are all good for any RV.

The only real issue is road construction and bridge replacement projects. Last year, during the late summer and early fall many of the loop roads were not loops, and required a lot of backtracking. The YNP web-site was very informative for work-arounds, but it took much more time that we anticipated.

One more thing. Don't go tearing around a blind curve in the park. People have this funny habit of parking in the middle of the road to spy on an animal. Roads are all fine and in good shape. They do have construction that seems to go on unexpectedly. We live 90 miles from the West Entrance, been there many times.

As said, yes you can travel all the major park roads in a MH. Some of the scenic loops and access roads are closed to large vehicles. Here is an interactive map that shows the distances of the various road segments. This webpage shows the status and condition of the roads within the park. The shorter route from Fishing Bridge Campground to West Yellowstone is a little over 56 miles. With the 45MPH speed limit, animal jams and slow traffic it can take a couple of hours.

In my opinion, the road between Tower and Canyon over Dunraven Pass is the least RV friendly, but is still very doable and many RVs travel it every day that it is open. It is a very scenic drive and if you are not in an RV, you can drive the gravel Chittenden road up to a parking lot from which you can hike to the fire lookout tower on Mount Wasburn.

Yep. "Animal jams" are very common and a lot of the lookie-loo's often don't bother to pull very far off the road if at all.

The park roads would be no problem for you. They are full of RVs.

You might want to consider 3 nights at Colter Bay RV in Grand Teton National Park instead of West Yellowstone. The Tetons are right next door to Yellowstone and yes, you can use the good park roads to get to Colter Bay. The Tetons are all together different than Yellowstone and would give you a nice change.

The hiking is awesome and can be easy or difficult. Take a boat trip across Jenny Lake and walk to the waterfalls. Take a gentle raft trip down the Snake River and you just might see a moose in the water with you. The town of Jackson has a rodeo that's enjoyable and major grocery stores to replenish your pantry. Then you can leave the area by going through Jackson - good roads.

You won't be disappointed with some time in the Tetons.

Here's all the information about each of the CGs in Yellowstone. Yellowstone is the first U.S. National Park and some of the CGs were never designed to handle the size of the RVs being built today. Just because Fishing Bridge has hookups, doesn't mean that they will have a space large enough for you. Make a reservation if you can. There are 12 CGs inside the park, but only 5 take reservations. The rest are first come, first served. And they don't all open at the same time. Check out the reference above.
