I may be very opinionated my self, but I do read the comments on these forums very carefully. And I do value everyone's comments too, even when I don't agree. There is still something to be learned and remembered, (and sometimes just forgotten too) from every post.
Well, it was fun while it lasted! Maybe we all need to get past this hum-drum winter and get camping again! I know, I've been bored for weeks now! My camper is just SCREAMING!!! TAKE ME SOMEWHERE!
Other than personal attacks, I have never figured out why people would object to a thread. It's not like some monster comes out of the computer and pins you to the ground and pounds the responses into your head. I don't lima beans or sushi, but I don't see the need to close down restaurants that serve those dishes. As long as my goldfish isn't the main course, I am in favor of letting people make their own choices. I feel the same way about this forum. But I agree with you, the fun is pretty much gone.
I've moderated a private campground forum with Google - one with Facebook - and believe me, having a free-for-all with all opinions allowed always seems to deteriorate into a name-calling session. Mind you this is before the current events this year... so as expected, people rarely fail to disappoint.
To really generalize:
about 1/3 of the people on this planet are good people.
about 1/3 of the people on this planet are not good people.
about 1/3 of the people on this planet will follow the bad people to any end including engaging in mob tactics when they wouldn't do that to their own family.
I don't think this place will "die", and even if it does, there are other forums to go to.
