Ah, too bad it got deleted. I found it very entertaining! I am surprised it ran as long as it did though.
I may be very opinionated my self, but I do read the comments on these forums very carefully. And I do value everyone's comments too, even when I don't agree. There is still something to be learned and remembered, (and sometimes just forgotten too) from every post.
Well, it was fun while it lasted! Maybe we all need to get past this hum-drum winter and get camping again! I know, I've been bored for weeks now! My camper is just SCREAMING!!! TAKE ME SOMEWHERE!
Thank you. As the count of the active pages show, this forum is slowing going the way of the dinosaur. It wasn't that long ago there were 30 pages active and 10 pages of new topics. Now 10 and 3 is the high norm. "Toilet paper, over or under?" and "can I tow this" won't carry people's attention forever. Thankfully, we will all find new things to amuse ourselves.
Other than personal attacks, I have never figured out why people would object to a thread. It's not like some monster comes out of the computer and pins you to the ground and pounds the responses into your head. I don't lima beans or sushi, but I don't see the need to close down restaurants that serve those dishes. As long as my goldfish isn't the main course, I am in favor of letting people make their own choices. I feel the same way about this forum. But I agree with you, the fun is pretty much gone.
As I said in one other post I am a devoted free speech guy. I too value others opinions, I have no problem with those that disagree with me, in fact I welcome it.
BUT as my Mother used to say..."There is a TIME and a PLACE". I fear we (as a people) have lost that very good bit of advice along the way.
That discussion was neither civil or on Topic (I am not sure it even had one) and devolved into a mess. Oh yes a big Ole Mess can be fun to watch...or read. But this is arguably not the right time and this forum was certainly NOT the right place for that discussion. In my view.
I value spirited well argued, passionate discourse especially when backed up by facts and interesting and informed opinion. And I do agree with WRVPO that those seem thinner on the ground than they used to be here. And that is a shame. But the post in question to my mind was not one of them. So I think there is little to lament with it's passing.
