BrianSue -- you did not address the point Mexicowanderer was making. "NOT FROM AN INDIVIDUAL AT THE BORDER." As a drive-in tourist, your papers mean nothing to the border people; they are just "messengers," and from a clinical standpoint, they are "robots." They are not trained to absorb your input, papers or not, regarding this matter.

Changes can only happen by rules being issued from Mexico City. NOT FROM AN INDIVIDUAL AT THE BORDER.

Annoy the customs agents at the border with a bunch of Mexican laws translated into English and tell them that they are not interpreting the weight stickers correct and watch how fast the "ENTRADA NEGADA" (denied entry) rubber stamp slams on the paper work!
As usual I am mystified by the comments on this forum. The negativity is astounding. Beyond any rational thinking.
I will try to clarify once again.
There has been NO CHANGE TO ANY LAWS. What I posted are the laws from MEXICO CITY!.
The INDIVIDUALS AT THE BORDER apparently do not know what the tag GVWR on the vehicle means. The law refers to CAPACIDAD DE CARGA . There is a very clear difference in these terms.
The law refers to CAPACIDAD DE CARGA which has nothing to do with GVWR – not in English and not in Spanish.
I do not remotely suggest anyone annoy any customs agents with anything translated into English. The laws are all written in Spanish. I did a Google Translate for the English speaking people on this forum. The translation is in no way intended for Spanish speakers.
Over many days I posted many web addresses where all the laws can be found and are spelled out and published in detail for anyone to access. I sent countless emails and communicated back and forth many times with people both at Aduana and SAT – various email addresses.
I have no idea what the staff at the border might do. If they clear you to go ahead there would be no reason to ANNOY them with any paperwork. But if you are aware of the laws as they are written IN MEXICO CITY and they deny you entry to Mexico because they tell you your vehicle does not comply with the rules you now have the option to debate the rules with them by showing them those written rules that come from MEXICO CITY!
If you want to visit Mexico and are anxious about the laws and the rules and whether you might be denied entry I have done a lot of research on the subject and my suggestion would be that those interested use the rules as they are written now that you have knowledge of those rules. You can prepare yourself and your vehicle for a smooth entry into Mexico if you are aware of the rules and prepare for them. Every vehicle manufacturer has the specifics on the weight and cargo capacity of the vehicles they produce. You can get the information and be prepared to discuss the specifics with the staff at the border. You do not have to argue or annoy or talk down to anyone. You can show them you have done your homework. You can go to the websites I posted to find the laws and print them out if you want to – or not.
Anyone is free to do whatever they want. No one needs to fight or argue.
I am still trying to get some sort of definition of what a pickup camper is and how it is classified in Mexico. My emails with them will continue until a conclusive answer is found. Folks can do whatever they choose with the info. If you do not like it you do not have to do anything or even read any of the posts.
