I have dealt with Mexican Laws and customs for more than 50 years, there is a saying in Spanish that says:
Mas sabe el diablo, no por diablo sino por Viejo.
:The devil knows a lot more, not for being the devil, but for being old.
Having lived, studied and worked in Mexico gives you a totally different perspective of the country, it's people and specially how they do things and how they work, specially around the laws that some times seem to be illogical but they have their reasons for being.
It is totally different when you come to Mexico as a "turista", the interaction at the border with "migracion" is minute, maybe two hours max otherwise it takes weeks to process a "tramite", you learn to be very patient.
As a "turista" everything is nice, rosy and cozy, but the real Mexico is different, and it takes a few years of living and working in Mexico to learn the Mexican way of doing things, some of the ex-pats some times get a very rude awakening, I have read all of the Mexican laws posted on this blogs, all are irrelevant to this subject and quoting some of them at the border is a guarantied ENTRY DENIED, none address the pick up trucks with a camper shell on it, and arguing with the "Aduaneros or Banjersito" about the weight of the vehicle will be an exercise in futility.
