some people are now renting an apartement or condo or else instead of bringing their rig to Mexico. Is it because it cost less this way or is it just because it is easier?
Both
I tried to get some prices online and for a decent place it seems to be in the 3000 to 4000 dollars a month.
You have to narrow down geographic area, tourist/locals, short/longterm. Beach condo can't be compared to RV. Big RV with slides is 300 sq ft inside area. This is a studio, not even one-bedroom. Studio in Mexico rented for +6 months in areas with "some" tourist population starts from $US 300-400/mo. Upper limit is the sky of course. Check portals like Trovit Casas for "amueblado" and local gringo bulletin boards in a chosen area. Rentals drop when you sign for minimum 6 months, though not all the places are furnished - amueblado, and landlords not always return your deposit in full.
...cost to get there, you still have to get to Mexico either by plane, bus or car.
OR car :)... Round plane ticket from Canada, for a couple, costs few times less than by car with all the hotel/camp costs, gas, car wear and Mex insurance. With MH or trailer you also have to buy gas to get there, a lot more gas compared to a car. RV-ing is a lifestyle. I've met many people who absolutely refused to travel in anything other than their own vehicle, even though it cost them more time, money and efforts.
... my friends that go to Florida for the winter in the Park house they bought or condos. From what they tell me, their cost varries from $5000 to $15000 canadian a year ..... They have to pay for a full year if they own the place.
Different people are looking for different kinds of living. Rather than paying 15,000 CAD a year for a place that I don't own, I'd would better bought a house in Mexico. Or brought an old RV and rented annual space with hookups for much, much less than $15,000 CAD.
