- moishehExplorerWe noticed a lot of small pot holes on 15 between Nogales and HMO. At the moment they are nothing to worry about. But when it rains those little holes become very large real quick!
Moisheh - puchinno12ExplorerMoishe: I should have been more clear. The road I was talking about was Mex 15 the cuota. The whole Sonora length was bad. As soon as we got to the Sinaloa border the road got a lot better. But by the looks of certain parts of the Sinaloa side stretches are starting to break up. I'm betting that by next year that stretch will be in rough shape

Did Sinaloa get all that rain? If so I would bite the bullet and use the toll road. Free roads and rain do not mix! Before you are actually in Culiacan and still on the highway there is a nice Pemex on the other side of the road. Quiet and safe. Sorry I do not have the number or GPS location. We stay close to the convenience store.

Thanks Moisheh. Saw the Pemex on Google Earth on the East side of the road just before the turnoff for the free road. Yes, I want to hear Tequila's report if he takes the road.

Anyone driven to Mazatlan lately? If so, how are the road conditions. Crossing tomorrow at Nogales.
Lots of construction and some rough spots but OK. At east as far as the El Fuerte turnoff. Headed to Maz on te 23rd, but I will probably use the free road from Culliacan.
Tequila, Where do you stay the night before the free road from Culliacan and along the way to Mazatlan? Thanks!
rocmoc n AZ/Mexico - puchinno12ExplorerAs a side note, when the tire minder went off on the outskirts of Hermossillo I pulled over to check the tires on the trailer. A passing truck of federales pulled over to ask if I was O.K. and if I needed help. For all the bad press about the Federales these guys were more than willing to help when they thought we were in trouble. Also Totanaka R.V. park is a very good site. The owner is very helpfull and the park has some very good rates, even for winter storage. Nice and quiet. 396 pesos per night and I think it was $75.00 U.S per month storage fees. Monthly, 520.00 U.S
- moishehExplorerHermosillo roads are the worst in Sonora. They have their own public works dept. A bunch of lazy bums that do not know how to lay asphalt. Even when they build a new road it deteriorates in 6 months. Heavily unionized!!!! There are streets that go from 2 lanes to 4 and then suddenly back to 2.
Moisheh - snarleyExplorerThis is our 8th or more trip thru Nogales to San Carlos. Left Nogales Walmart at 7am.A little bit of confusion at the US exit-we took the oversize vehicle right hand lane. Customs inspection was focused on the VIN for our motorhome. Do you know where yours is located?? ours is NOT on the dash but buried next to the oil dipstick on the frame. No other issues at customs - six bottles of wine, lol. Thru km 21 by 8 am. Good road to Hermosillo and then mucho potholes thru Hermosilo- the worst at the left hand turn to the bypass in the left lane and ever worse about halfway along the east /west connector to (Hi 15) in the right hand lane , before the go-right to go-left. Our total time Walmart to Totonaka was 1 hour faster than 2013, reflecting the better road from Hermosillo to Guaymas. So far so good-Mazatlan sometime in the next week.
- puchinno12ExplorerJust went through Hermosillo today. What a terrible piece of road. My God!I took the Guaymas bypass around Hermosillo..BIG MISTAKE. I've never seen a road that bad. Potholes all over the road. Stopped at San Carlos and one of the other travelers also couldn't believe the state of the road. I'm glad this is just a one way trip with the trailer.Drive the truck home and fly next time. With the price of the tolls, these roads should not be in this bad of shape. Anyways 500 more miles.Hope the roads get better, although it was getting a bit "smoother" the further I got from Hermosillo.
