X2 on this. Have used US 36 before, between St Joseph MO and Colorado. If you do a search here on "US 36 Kansas", you'll find plenty of prior experiences and tips. It may be a bit further north, but should be considered if you want to meander at a leisurely pace. Could also take a stop at the Geographical Center of the United States, just north of Lebanon KS off US 36. Neat little park there with signs and a monument, and a little chapel. Good place to get out, stretch your legs, and take some pics to say you've been there!
