- realterExplorerMy boy, now I find out
he's stopping here, plus Spokane, so I guess pretty much limited to i80 and all the trucks, to Cheyenne, to Billings, and west. What are snow chances on some of those passes in MT ID, and WA? Thanks - stickdogExplorerAlthough we're been out that way a few times we try to take a different route because time and miles usually don't enter our plans. We just like the scenery. If you use google mape routing and your paying by the mile pick the one that is shorest. Concerned about mountain passes you can find those on
- Y-GuyModeratorBeen there done that! We moved to KC from Everett years ago, we went through Boise, SLC and Denver to KC. We just drove to Denver following our same route this summer, its long but very doable. We also have driven I80 through Lincoln to Larime, preferred that route. We also drove through Montana/SD. I personally didn't enjoy that drive as much. Google shows 3 routes on Interstates, all are very doable with a U-Haul. Do pay attention to wind warnings, on our drive back (with our car) the winds were bad, many trucks and RVs had hunkered down in near overpasses. Enjoy the trip!
- BarryG20ExplorerWell I would be looking for a way with the fewest high passes to go over since those uhaul trucks are not known for their exceptional mountain climbing ability.
I would be thinking I 70 west then get up on I 80 either via I-25 or some other way so that you are on 80 by the time you get to Cheyenne. then I 80 across to I 84 then up I 5. Wont be the most scenic route for sure but you will have good road and decent traffic in case something goes wrong and I think you will miss all the high mountain passes. Only one of a hundred different ways to get there though. - Tiger02ExplorerWhen we moved from Tennessee to the Seattle area last January we pretty much followed our truck driver. I-70 through Kansas to just outside Denver taking the 470 toll road up to I-25 north getting off at exit 269B at Fort Collins. This is HWY 14 then HWY 287 which connects to I-80 in Laramie, WY. Continued on I-80 until I-84 north of SLC, UT then followed I-84 to I-82 in northern Oregon. I-82 ends at I-90 and continue west to Seattle over Snoqualmie Pass.
Good luck.
