Route around Jacksonville Fl

Hello, I will be leaving from Knoxville Tn heading to Wauchula Fl pulling a 40ft 5th Whl. I don't want to go through Atlanta and thought I95 South would be a much better drive. I have recently heard that the roads can be hectic around Jacksonville Fl. Any thoughts or suggestions to avoid that area?

Thanks
  • There was a bit of construction on the eastern bypass a month or so when we went north.

But I don’t know the condition the road is thru town.

Either way you go, on a weekday the heavy flow is south in the afternoon.

I like to take US 301 outside of Colombia SC to I75 north of Ocala. Four lane divided, good road.
  • I/295 East is a nicer drive than I/95 but they take about the same amount of time. Almost every time I take I/295 I meet a truck or RV we were driving near on I/95 at the junction. But it's a much nicer ride!
  • Take I-295 East around Jacksonville. To avoid Atlanta and Jacksonville, Take I-40 to Ashville, NC. Then I-26 to Spartanburg, SC. Then take I 85 South to Commerce, Ga. and then take US 441 South. Through Athens, Watkinsville, onto Madison, Ga. Take the US 441 bypass around Madison to I-20. Take I-20 west one exit GA 83 South. Take Ga 83 South through Monticello to Forsyth, Ga. and Get on I-75 South. Take I-75 South to I-4 South in Orlando, and then US 98 to Wauchula. These are all good, wide roads, well marked, and will easily accommodate your 5the wheel. There are plenty of places where you can refuel, stop for meals, and even a few RV parks and state parks close by as well.
