Route from I-5 to Oregon Coast

Ron , either 5 N to Eugene take hwy 126 to the 101 to Florence, Is a good road. But a long 101 trip north, great views. Or to Corvalis to the hwy 20 to Newport , a little more curvy but not as much 101 . BOTH good roads. I have traveled these many times.

Either Oregon 38 or Oregon 126 are suitable routes. I prefer 126 out of Eugene myself.

I was thinking 38 also. He wants to spend as much time on 101 as he can before getting to Newport, but I've never been over that road. I always take 34 to 20 and I have taken 126 before. But he's wanting to get over to the coast as soon as he can.

An alternative---
Go to Redding and take 299 over to 101 and you will be on Hwy. 101 all the way north to Newport.

Hell I would tell him to take 20 just north of Sacramento and then follow it to 101 so he can enjoy the redwoods. Another option would be 299 ? out of Redding I certainly wouldn't wait til I got into Oregon to enjoy 101.

299 or 199. Some great ocean views from 101 just north of 299.

299 from Mt Shasta would involve driving south to Redding first. That road is a bit curvy and narrow, some do not like to drive it. I am OK with it, but it is not for everyone.
Grants Pass to 199 to Crescent City is easy for any rig and driver.
Hwy 20 is waaayyy south of Mt Shasta. Quite a bit of backtracking.

Yeah, I don't think he'd want to go back south over the road he just traveled yesterday.

Hummmmm. I've heard 199 is not for the faint of heart in a large rv.

I will humbly ask to tag onto this thread. We will be leaving the Junction City/Eugene area on 9/28 and want to travel down 101 into Northern CA to see the redwoods.

Of the following options heading down, which would you recommend:

Route 38 from I-5 over to Reedsport

Route 42 from I-5 near Roseburg to Bandon.

Once we get into CA, our plan is to exit 101 at Laughlin and take 20 over to I-5 at Williams then down to intersect I-80 in Sacramento. We will be stopping in Las Vegas on our way back home in Virginia.

I prefer 38 with any size rig.
