- Williams5ExplorerI am/was researching the same concern. I'm coming from Indianapolis to WDW in October.
You can also take I75 from Cincinnati through Knoxville. Still some mountains, but less of an impact than Monteagle, if I recall correctly (never driven the route before in the RV).
From Indy - I65 to I24 to I75 is least miles, I74 to I75 in Cincy is 2nd (barely), the route through Birmingham is the longest of the 3.
I'm doing the route through Knoxville mostly to avoid Louisville at rush hour as it always is a road block it seems. - Disney_World_BoExplorerThanks bartletttraveller and everyone else. I am thinking this last post from Jim and Judy with the I57 & I55 options are great. We are about 6 miles from I55 and maybe 12 from I57. Thanks again!
- bartletttravellExplorerIf you are in central Ill. Then go to I-57 to I-24 to I-65 to Montgomery al. From there get on US 231 to I-10 to I-75 to WDW.
If you dont care about miles driven get in I-55 in Ill. ti I-12 in La. to I-10 to I-75. There are no Mountains either route. - We_ll_SeeExplorerYou can avoid the mountains on that route by staying west. I have driven Chicago to Orlando twice and we prefer to head down to Louisville than east to Lexington and through TN, NC, and SC through the smoky mountains and it is absolutely beautiful. On the way back, we go through Atlanta via 75 and it is not nearly as scenic but it is a bit faster. Going through TN it is a bit curvy and hilly.
- tatestExplorer IIDown to Montgomery on I-65, then US-231 to Florida. Absolutely no mountains, you cross Kentucky and Tennessee at a lower elevation than northern Illinois.
You will still have grades of 5-6% crossing ridges and river valleys, they will just be short sections, but can still briefly slow you down. - TPUCExplorerMonteagle Mtn in TN on I24 is nothing 6 miles up and 6 miles down and your done for the rest of your trip. It is around a 5 to 6 % grade. I came across it last weekend at 70 MPH.
- Disney_World_BoExplorerOK thanks for moving it. Good to know there is a roads n routes. I need to learn how to look at things already posted and find supjects I would like to read about. Am hoping to do that on the weekend coming up. Can you give me any pre-advice on how to use the site/forum?

- Disney_World_BoExplorerThanks everyone!
- mleekampExplorerI just finished driving our TT from Peoria, IL to Orlando, FL, and back....and yes, I did drive through Chattanooga (was our first night). Yes, there are hills, but we had no issue. We certainly slowed down some trying to climb a grade but it was not a big deal. Just stayed on the right in line with the big rigs. We took I57 to I24, then I75 south to FL. Done it many times.
