Was out that way earlier this year... Took 87 (New York State Thruway) to Albany... Continued on NYST which becomes 90 to route 88... Took 88 for a short while and then got on route 20 and continued to route 31 to access Glimmer Glass State Park... you can continue down 31 to Cooperstown...
What CG are you trying to get to?
This route should be fine with heights... Interstate highway for 87, 90 and 88 to route 20, route 20 does pass through some small towns but is mostly two lanes each side and 50mph...
