Route from Yellowstone to Grand Tetons

Hi Everyone--we have a trip scheduled in September stopping at both Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. We will be staying in West Yellowstone and Coulter Bay respectively. All the route planners suggest we go through the park, down the Rockefeller Parkway and into Grand Tetons. My hubby plans to drive through Bozeman to avoid the seasonal roads and Yellowstone Park. We will be staying plenty long to explore without the 5th wheel so wonder if going from West Yellowstone down #20, 32, and 33 through Wilson into Jackson would avoid the slow, curvy park traffic or if the Rockefeller Parkway is relatively straight and trailer friendly. Have gotten great advice from you in the past and would appreciate some now.
  • Through the park is the best way in our estimation. We were there in June. I'm missing it already and planning return trip next year! While in Teton's we found one of the best places to view wildlife was behind Jackson Lake Lodge. Lots of parking at lodge. There is a trail that winds upwards to a hill overlooking vast areas of brush, meadows, ponds. We saw moose, grizzly, elk, sandhill cranes. Have a great trip!
  • Okay--seems the consensus is to go through the park. We will be coming from Minnesota and the Good Sam Router suggested we take Highway 212 off the freeway at Spearfish,SD. They suggest going north to Belle Fouche and take 212 up and over to meet the freeway just south of Hardin. This looks like it cuts off lots of miles but we've always taken the freeway. Anyone familiar with this route?
  • Go straight through the park. It's the best way and doesn't require much time. This is especially true since you're staying in Coulter Bay. Have a good trip!
