Routes through the Adirondacks/NY for fall foliage

Thank you everyone for your feedback. Looking forward to seeing this part of the country.

My favorite from the West would be Rte 8 to 30 (in Speculator) to 3 (in Tupper Lake) to 86 (through Lake Placid) to 9N and then back South on I-87 - The Adirondack Northway. From the Northway you can take a ferry or bridge to Vermont or stay on 87 and it eventually ends near NY City with many jumping off points.
Whatever route you choose it's all beautiful in the Fall.

Most campgrounds in the Adirondacks do close around Columbus Day.

Great time of year to visit Fort Tie,

We like the ride up Rt 30 from Rt 29 to Malone in the fall. From Malone we swing over Rt 11 to I-87 south through the Lake George region.

Old Forge is great. I was there last week. There are no roads that would interfere with your travels. Rte. 12 through Rte. 28. Rte. 28 will take you all through the Adirondacks. keep in mind that most of the State Parks will be closed. Old Forge Camping Resort can accommodate you and is a great place to stay. Love the Adirondacks.

Rte. 87, the Northway from Albany through Lake George is beautiful also. You can actually go through Lake George which would get you to many places in the Adirondacks.

Be nice to know your starting point and how soon you are going.

Route 17 to Deposit, then route 10, to Schoharie and 88 to the north way. upstate.

The Delaware Valley is about as good as it gets.

Route 365 and route 8 makes a pretty drive. It certainly has some curvy bits and some hilly bits (and some curvy hilly bits), but I don't recall any particularly low clearances. I've taken my 32' class C over it without drama.

(Please do not confuse "DrewE doesn't recall any low clearances" with "there absolutely are no low clearances.")

A good while ago, when the kids were "Kids" we used to just plug in the locations of the Local Ski resorts - Usually good mountain scenery and just Beautiful Trees.

Now we do the same thing in Colorado and it has never let us down.

Lake Placid is a pretty nice place to visit,
