Sacramento, ca to Coos bay or.

Planning a trip from Stockton, Ca. to Coos bay, Or. in June. What would be the best route to take with a 40 ft. with tow ? I have been there once before and took 101, pretty route but very curvy and hilly. How is the cut across if I stay on I 5?
  • You will enjoy scenic country side on Hwy 138. There is a little town named Scotts Burg (1 hr. after you leave Sutherland) that has a great bakery on Hwy 38. Watch for parking on the right hand side of hwy 38. We always stay at the Coos Bay Casino RV park. Make your reservations as soon as possible. If you stay at 7 Feathers RV park, I would fuel up and I always use the pumps for the truckers. There is one lane for RVers. They have both gasoline and diesel. Have a great trip:)
  • Thank you to those who has provided me with travel information. I will keep all this information for further use. Before I got into RV'ing I followed an RV across one of the routs from I5 to 101 and it scared me seeing how close his tail end hugged some of the embankments and it was no 40 ft. class A but a class Don't want to make that mistake. Mark Twain, Hwy 138 appeals to me at this time.
  • I've also driven across both 42 and 138/38 with no issues.

Seven Feathers is also a good place to fill up with gas.

Option 1 --Drive north on I-5 to Canyonville Oregon (396 miles) stay at 7 Feathers RV park. Beautiful park with mostly pull throughs. Great casino with good food. 7-24 free shuttle. Or you can break up your trip by stopping at the Corning Rolling Hills Casino RV park (162 miles) then on to Canyonville.
Continue north to Sutherlin then north on hwy. 138 to Hwy. 38 to hwy.101. Then south on 101 to Coos Bay.
    Option 2
I-5 to hwy 42 to hwy 101 then north to Coos Bay (521 miles) makes for a long day unless you stay at the 7 feathers RV Park Casino. Make your reservations in April. Popular place.

I have traveled both ways and normally take option 1. Hwy. 138 is more RV friendly and a scenic drive But Hwy. 42 is ok as well.
  • I5 north and south of Roseburg cut across to the coast. Or at Eugene west.
