Safely leaving firearms near the border?

Absolutely agree with navigator. Really check everywhere for loaded rounds and shell casings. These can get you in real trouble. We made it to Belize in 2013 and flew to Costa Rica for birding/photography. Had to leave rig in customs holding yard in Belize City (or go through lawyers whatever to have it bonded). This costs us $5/day and there was an armed customs official at the holding yard ("someone comes in and tries to steal, I shoot them!". There was a large rig next to ours that had been there for two years. They had discovered a firearm in it and the pickup and 38' fifth wheel were confiscated. There is a 6 month jail term for having a single cartridge in Belize.
