San Diego CA to Zion national park halfway stopover

Hello, I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. My husband and I are traveling with our two young children from San Diego to Zion over spring break. We'll be in Zion for about a week and are hoping to break up the drive a bit on the way there with an overnight and then doing the same on the way back. When we go to Yosemite (about the same distance) we usually just stay at a friend's house or a Wal-Mart, but we don't have any friends on the way to Zion and haven't found any overnight friendly Walmart s near Vegas. Any suggestions of where we may want to stay that isn't too far off route? Campground, RV park, friendly parking lot, we're open to them all. Thank you in advance for your suggestions! Alicia

  • Oasis in Lost Wages, KOA in Barstow are both good. Been to both more than once.
  • Vegas is a nice stopping point - plenty for adults and kids.
  • Calico Ghost Town by Barstow. The RV Park has full hooks at some sites. Short walk from RV to Ghost town. Price is for RV site and Ghost Town. Park is a San Bernardino County Park.
  • All along I-15 there are gas stations, BLM areas or truck stops with pull off areas especially once you get passed Barstow. Wiley Wells Rest Area is one of our overnight stopping spots there are large areas to park away from the normal parking areas.

In Las Vegas Oasis RV Resort is our favorite.

Or if you have a day to do some sightseeing Red Rock Canyon Nat'l Park is great for exploring.

  • There is a KOA in Barstow, casino parking lots in Primm, or if you want to go further the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort is on your path as well.
