Sault Ste Marie

Traveling from St. Louis to the UP of Michigan and wanting to venture into Canada for a night or two before heading south again we are looking for a nice campground close to Sault Ste Marie. We want to try the Northern hospitality and scenery but know nothing of the area. (And want to add Canada to our camping map). Working on Google now, but prefer personal opinions and views.
We have a "B" camper and only require electric and showers of a campground. Prefer a park with trees and growies, to field with tables and power poles.
Also looking for local eateries. As we call them "Beer & Burger joints", Mom & Pop vs franchises. Native cuisine and atmosphere. Historic sites and culture.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

  • You might want to look at Pancake Bay Provincial Park. It is just over an hour north of S.S. Marie ON and has some electrical sites that are are virtually on the beach. No real opportunity though for beer & burger joints up there but some nice scenery along the way. Just a gas station/trading post just south of the entrance then nothing but trees.
  • I agree with inbellbouy. The antlers will be the place to visit! If I'm not mistaken there is a park close to the locks along the St marys river.
  • Aun Osborne city cg on the US side... ships so close you can almost touch them. Watch one go thru the locks. CDN side... aviation museum, great train ride on the Agawa Canyon trip. X2 on Antlers Tavern... enjoy eh!
  • I think the restaurant you want to visit is Antlers. An old neighbor went to college at Lake Superior State there and recommend it. I've been there a couple of time but haven't camped there.
  • Have stayed in sault (Canada) a few times. Most are near the highway and fairly noisy. I like the KOA just north of town. Lots of trees/grass etc but not the cheapest place.
  • Took this off RV Park Reviews website

Never stayed or ate in the area...just passed thru.......
