Those aren't mosquitoes - around here they're called "sand fleas." They are very small, can make it through many screens, and hurt like heck when they're chewing on you. We were out at Tybee yesterday and didn't have problems with them there (although we do have them at Hunter Army Airfield on the southern end of Savanna at this time). The 24th Infantry Division at FT Stewart discovered that Avon Skin-So-Soft was the only thing that would keep them away. Imagine a heavy mechanized battalion going to the field smelling like a French bordello...
As mentioned, getting an RV out to Tybee is no problem - you can get from the interstates to HWY 80 which will take you all the way out to the island. There are a few congested areas on 80 with stoplights, though, and it can be a bit slow during rush hour. This coming weekend, there are supposed to be thousands of teenagers converging on Tybee for some sort of big to-do. Also, "Baywatch" is filming there right now and parts of the beach and pier are closed for a few weeks.
