We thought we would go a different way to Texas this October. We need a route through West Virginia and Kentucky that needn't include the interstates and that is scenic and safe.

Are you really sure you don't want to drive the interstates thru the `mountains'?
Google maps shows it is some 2100 miles and 31 hours via interstates. Eliminating the interstates would require you to leave now.
