Seattle to Vermont in December

The train is very pleasant.

If you don't want to be away from your rig, and can leave in Nov, why not go south the whole way? Cheyenne and Denver sound like h*ll in December.

If farther north, Walmarts and truck stops will be open, and maybe casinos. And I bet small town motels and city hotels with big parking lots would let you stay...possibly not for less than the room rate. But with your rig winterized you will be needing their bathrooms, anyway.

How about taking the train?

taking your suggestions to heart and looked at last years weather in Peoria, IL. Burrrr, Since we are in no hurry and can leave anytime after Thanksgiving, maybe we'll take I84 thru Oregon to Salt Lake City, then I80 to and thru Cheyenne and after Denver cut down to I 70. We can weave our way around the east coast until the last minute and then head north. My grandson said the roads are well salted.

RV? Vermont? December & January? Not a good idea. Car, motels/hotels, good idea. You want to reach the family in once piece I assume. There's no way I would tackle that type of trip with the potential of bad weather the entire way.

Odds are that 80 will be warmer than 90/94.

But that doesn't mean anything on the days you want to travel. Still could get a blizzard in CO/NE/IA.

I'd be inclined to the car. If it wasn't snowing/icing, I'd get up early and try to drive more miles in a day, since you wouldn't be fussing with a place to stop in your RV each day. You'd get the trip over with in less days. Probably close to the same expense, RV vs car.

If it's snowing, I'd hotel it and pull out my Kindles.

I suggest you pick cities along your route and check the historical weather data.

So if we drive the car, leave late in the day and quit early and sit out any storms would taking 80 be any
warmer

I didn't think about the CG's being closed. Yeah, that's a big problem.
