Sedona AZ

Hello Everyone,
In planing our trip out west from FL, we decided to visit Sedona AZ, which is just south of Flagstaff. We are staying at Rancho Sedona RV Park.
Has anyone stayed here?
I heard not to travel on 89a so we are taking I-17 to to 179 then N to Sedona...has anyone been this way.

  • 89A has length restrictions - both north and south from Sedona. I presume you mean you are driving it with JUST the toad to the Grand Canyon.

You should stay at the Grand Canyon to fully appreciate it - sunrise and sunset. You will be spending more time on the road that seeing it otherwise coming from Sedona; beautiful but colors washed out in midday sun.

    The 179 is fine.

Rancho Sedona is pretty and pretty expensive - have the old "only show in town syndrome" though. And can be tight on the roads inside the park.
  • Thanks for your responses, So far we are planning to go on a hot air balloon ride. The helicopter ride sounds like fun also. I am planning to drive 89A with the Toad when we go to the Grand Canyon.
  • Hwy 89a goes through Oak Creek Canyon and is not so fun in a motorhome with toad. Two miles of switchbacks and 15 miles along the creek, a little narrow in places. Stick with I-17 to 179 and see Oak Creek Canyon in your toad.
  • We were there a few years ago, and took 89A because of construction on 179 just south of Sedona... wasn't that bad as I remember it. If you've got the cash to spare, do the helicopter tour... definitely a bucket list type adventure!
  • We enjoyed ourselves at Rancho Sedona when we stayed there and the route you chose is perfectly fine for RVs. Definitely worthwhile taking a run up/down 89A in your toad, there's so much to do in the area, have a great time.
  • Great RV Park......take a hike down by river!

    179 from I-17 easy route

    Enjoy!

Side trip..south from Sedona to Cottonwood then over to Jerome.....old mining town
