Thanks.... We also use Wal-Mart as a bank while on the road.... We will for sure get some Canadian $$$$$ there......

I'll need for toll booths anyway from what I understand...

What Canadian routes are you taking that are toll? Better, non toll roads, are probably available.

I a using 17 and 417 and then 30 around Montreal and I guess there is a toll for the Bridge on 30?

We are spending a few days a Sault Ste Marie at the Elks Lodge before we cross onto Canada so I may be able to exchange there...

Oh yeh Yes have a Chipped Card that we will use....
  • If I were going to exchange any money, it would be at a bank. Always get the exact exchange rate with no hold backs or extra charges.

Or use a credit card for purchases.

X2. There may or may not be transaction fees for using the credit card. Our rule of thumb is for large purchases we use credit/debit, small purchases or ma & pa type places we use cash.

There's almost always a duty free and currency exchange at the border.

Other than that exchanging money at stores as mentioned is possible, and if not exchanging much probably wouldn't be a big deal, but they keep a pretty big slice generally. I was in a Wally World yesterday and noticed the little sign at the cash register, $1.17 was what they were giving for US funds. It's $1.28 at my bank currently.
  • Our first stop is usualy a Walmart to stock up on items we could not bring over. We use our debit card and always get cash back, it's our main bank.
  • Why not just get your CDN money from an ATM at a bank? You will pay the days exchange rate and no cost for converting your yankee green backs to our loonie.
