Smoky mountain fire

hey everyone. I'm from this area and it has been a pretty sad sight to watch.

Still haven't driven to Gatlinburg since I'm in Knoxville but we could see it from here

Most of the damage has been outside of the downtown area. Downtown G'burg is still intact for the most part. Pigeon Forge is intact. Yes, many many homes and resort timeshares have been destroyed....over 150 structures so far. 4 deaths reported. Heavy rain has moved in this morning and is both helping and hurting the efforts. 8 new fires started before the rain moved in and it has destabilized the ground in the steeper hills. 441 is still closed thru the park. Trees and wires are down all over yet. As bad as this has been, we are not devastated so if you had plans to visit the area please do so still.

Much devastation = = many homes and buildings destroyed in Gatlinburg including several buildings at the Treetops resort on Roaring Fork road where we have owned a time-share condo for over 30 years.

Just heard no damage done to Elkmont. No damage to Dollywood or hotel. Full assessment is ongoing all over town.

No definite word but Elkmont is right there in the thick of the fire area. Anyone familiar with this area, I'm telling you, its very bad and things will be forever changed here. 441 will be closed for a couple more days I predict. The south end of Pigeon Forge is included in all this too. Dollywood's DreamMore Resort was evacuated too. Smoke is very thick in the air all over and its plain hard to breath outside.

One of our most favorite places to go to... Been camping inside the Natl Park at ELKMONT for many years past - back to the 60s... Gatlinburg certainly sits in a hollow with mountains all around it...

Have stated many times all of our RV Camping roads always go through Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mtns...

Morning up date, fires are still burning and the evacuation is still in effect. The rain has done little to put out the flames and our firefighters are doing what they can. Some 30+ buildings have been burned and the damage is extensive all over G'burg.

Various social media reports, and just now on our local 10pm news out here in Denver, reporting that a 16-story hotel is on fire (Park Vista Hotel)and 30 other structures and apartments are on fire.

Prayers to all in that area that the weather will change and assist the valiant firefighters.

I just read there are now 30 structures in Gatlinburg burning including a hotel and apartment building.

This is really bad. The rain has not done a lot to contain the fires. The wind is still blowing and fanning the flames. A fire is close to Dollywood but its not burning itself yet. One structure is burning in Gatlinburg.
