It's a common technique in drug interdiction. Contradictory, invalid answers to innocuous, apparently irrelevant questions can indicate deception. It's especially effective when interviewing two people who's answers should match, but they don't.
How long have you been traveling....
What day did you leave home....
How long have you known each other....
While you are correct, in this case his questions demanded DIFFERENT answers.
Asking if you are "CARRYING" any weapons with you is not the same question as "Do You OWN" any. Therefor different answers are not contradictory.
Any person with half a brain can game these questions to their advantage as they are so transparently obvious. Who do they think they are fooling?
WHY dont you own any guns? Was the stupidest of all.
This is not how you protect your borders effectively.
Years ago when I was re entering the US from Asia two customs agents tried to double team me asking me questions at the same time.
I stopped them and said. "I can only respond to one of you at a time."
Then I proceeded to ignore one and answer only the questions of the one nearest me. They gave up and let me go.
note: my use of CAPS is for emphasis not yelling, it;s just so much easier than the antiquated way this site has of doing any text related change such as italics or bold.
