Guy wants to know what town we started in that day. WTH difference does that make?
Believe it or not Veebyes, there are reasons for specific questions.
Perhaps in your case, there was an alert out for an abducted child from the very area you were coming from. Or by asking that question the Officer learned you were not coming from any where near the town / city of the particular alert.
Same case for an alert out for a person who had dementia and was missing.
Believe it or not, BAD things do happen; terrorist attacks, murder, burglary, home invasions, etc. and people do drive similar vehicles to what you drive. When the Officer finds out you are not coming from the area of interest, with that particular vehicle of interest, you are no longer a possible suspect.
Perhaps someone had alerted the border Officers about an erratic driver from a particular place in Canada. That driver may have been driving the exact same vehicle you were driving. By finding out you were not coming from the alert watch area of Canada, you immediately become an non suspect vehicle / person.
I could go on with many more examples of why, what appears to you to be off the wall questions, are asked. There are reasons.
Of course Mr / Mrs Veebyes, it might just simply have been that the Officer was trying to make small talk with you. Or perhaps the Officer had had a scary adrenalin pumping incident or any number of other potential high stress situations (armed and dangerous, etc.) just prior to your arrival and not yet had time to regain their professional composure in order to ask what you consider to be "normal" questions.
Opps, if anything in that last paragraph was the case, that would mean that the border Officer was a regular and normal person with actual feelings. I would not dare to go that far and consider border Officer to have "feelings". My bad.........
Enjoy your normal, hopefully stress-free day.
