- Executive45Explorer IIISteve, since you're staying at Yosemite Pines, your best route is 50,88,49 and 120. That said, IMHO, you still won't enjoy the trip. Most of these folks saying it's an ok drive may not have noticed you will be almost as long as I am @ 65'. I haven't checked the maps but I'm not sure your rig will be allowed on Hwy 49...you should check with the California Highway Patrol before committing to that route. I know I'm not allowed on portions of it.
You'll miss all the fun on 120 without the trailer behind you, but that's ok. You'll see when you get there.
If you're looking for a great campground off Hwy 88 try the Jackson Rancheria on Dalton Rd. You'll see the huge sign once you get off the mountain. Their fuel is usually the least expensive in the area and they have a drive thru car wash for your trailer if you need it....
Yosemite wasn't designed for big rigs, so we have to make concessions...:W.....Dennis - nevadanickExplorerI dont agree with avoiding 88. I lived in the area and drove those roads often and i would take 50 to 89 to 88 to 49.

It would be a really really long day for you pulling that rig on that route....avoid it...Dennis
What would your choice be? - WayneLeeExplorerJust got back from Yosemite Lakes RV Park. Of all the routes suggested, the one that I would be worried about, but still take, is the 120 route. From 49 you take 120 up Priest's Grade to Groveland. That Grade is something like 8 degree road with a lot of switchbacks for 4 miles. My rig is 36' plus another 10' or so for the Hummer dinghy, and it was really tight on a couple of switchbacks. I'm not sure if there are any alternate routes that are better. There is a "back" way from Coulterville, but I haven't taken it in 8 years.
- korbeExplorerI would take 50, 49, 120

I don't tow, but if no one here chimes in I would suggest checking with the state highway folks before you go, just to be sure you can do it. I went pretty slow in my minivan :B.

- normloboExplorerwe are staying at yosemite pines rv park in groveland. does that help?
- Ed_GeeExplorer IIActually there are three ways to get to Yosemite from the California Central Valley....the northern most route, highway 108 to highway 120 into Yosemite is the best, in my opinion. Still, I shudder to think of maneuvering a 44' fifth wheel around that place.... And I'd sure want to check tunnel clearances before heading in, too.
